One problem we have had in the past is parts go obsolete and we don't know when. This is a problem because on some of our products we make a design with a part that is currently in production, then later on the company pulls the part (this is why were looking for a part right now). Then we have to spend time and money to come up with a replacement board, this happens more often then you would think all it takes is one part that doesn't have a drop in replacement. I need to know how long the parts will remain on the shelf Linear Tech offers a guarantee (something like 5 years after the part is made obsolete, you can still order it). I don't expect this, but I do expect to know when the part will be made obsolete so I can decide if I want to include the part in the design or not.
