There is no "work around" since the part is working properly. The only way to guarantee that the T_OBJ will equal T_DIE is to place an object with high emissivity (good radiator of IR energy) in front of the TMP006 that is also at room temperature. Otherwise, T_OBJ will be a function of the wall or ceiling temperature (or whatever is in the device's field of view). If these surfaces are not made of high-emissivity material, then they will only output a small amount of IR energy and therefore T_OBJ will be less than T_DIE.
